EMS Review

PLEASE NOTE THAT FROM 31ST MARCH 2011 THIS SERVICE IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO PARTICIPANTS OF THE EMS CLUB

Overview of the EMS Review Service

Resource Efficiency East is offering a one-day package of fully funded support, for businesses looking to explore the practicalities of adopting an environmental management system (EMS) and who are participating in The EMS Club workshop programme. The support includes;

  • A site visit to conduct a benchmarking exercise; designed to help you understand the benefits of an EMS and map out what needs to be achieved to implement an EMS
  • A bespoke report and action plan that summarises the findings of the advisor and the recommendations they make on the implementation of an EMS

Site Visit

The site visit will enable the advisor allocated to support you to review the following;

A. EMS Role

Review of potential role of an EMS within the organisation, including consideration of:

  • Environmental aspects
  • Current environmental management
  • Position in key supply chains
  • Existing systems and procedures
  • Scope of an EMS

B. Cost/Benefit analysis of an EMS

A full review of costs and benefits of implementing an EMS, including:

  • Advantages and disadvantages
  • Time commitment
  • External certification costs,
  • Ongoing costs
  • Satisfaction of supply chain pressures
  • Carbon and financial savings
  • Reputational and other non-financial benefits

C. EMS options

A review of types of EMS, including main differences, role of each and implications:

  • Non-certification
  • Certification (ISO14001/BS8555)

D. EMS Diagnostics Check

An analysis of all relevant EMS stages and the capability of organisation to deliver, including:

  • Aspects & Impacts
  • Legislation and other requirements
  • Significance Ranking
  • Objectives and Targets
  • Operational Controls
  • Auditing, etc.

The diagnostic check will clarify requirements and the time commitment for each stage, taking into account the organisation's capability and resources. It will also consider all options relating to external assistance (if relevant); advisory, mentoring or full implementation - differences and costs.

The visit should take approx 3 hours depending on the size and complexity of your business and we recommend that you make an appropriate member of your staff available to answer questions and take the advisor around your site.

Site Visit Report

From the findings of the visit the advisor will write an informative, but concise report and action plan. The report will detail the advisors recommendations in terms of implementing an environmental management system.

Ongoing Support

Ongoing support will be provided through The EMS Club workshop programme
